An average supermarket carries over 40,000 items, creating a daunting task for brands when it comes to attracting customers to their products. The array of choices on the shelves allows shoppers to make the majority of their buying decisions in the supermarket or store itself. As a result, the packaging is what makes a product stand out in the eyes of the consumers! Packaging design is no longer just about aesthetics, but also encompasses improving consumers’ perception about the product’s quality. It educates the shopper about the product, leading to an interaction between the consumer and the brand. For instance, more and more brands are using minimal sustainable packaging to attract eco-conscious consumers and highlight their commitment to the environment.  Read more

The Challenge of Counterfeiting : What Will Safeguard Brands from Counterfeiting Threats?

Image
The difficulties that ensue from counterfeiting result in a broad spectrum of negative after-effects for businesses, governments and consumers. The International Anti-Counterfeiting Coalition (IACC) describes counterfeiting as a crime, involving fraudulently manufacturing or distributing goods under someone else’s name, without their permission. Evolving into a worldwide challenge over time, counterfeiting incurs heavy losses on companies as they try to combat duplication and undermines the brand image as well as the consumers’ trust they have worked so hard to build over a long time.  As per a study by Supply Chain Resource Co-operative, the counterfeited goods market has grown from $30B in the 1980s and exceeds $600B today. With rising counterfeiting incidents this number could soon rise to over $1.8 trillion, which is more than the gross domestic product (GDP) of many developing countries around the world. The rapid development of the internet and the proliferation of vari...

Image
Emphasizing the need for recycling of multi layered plastic packaging as a sustainable solution for flexible packaging industry, Ashok Chaturvedi, Chairman & Managing Director, Uflex Limited expressed his concrete views at Pack Vision 2018 hosted by Flexible Packaging Entrepreneurs’ Welfare Association recently. Flexible packaging, a 100 billion dollar industry, comprises the largest part of the total packaging industry growing at an average of 4.5 – 5 % globally. There is a great deal of misconception on plastic being the mere culprit to cause harm to the environment by choking the gutters, affecting the Marine life and harming the birds and animals which consume the littered plastics floating around both on the land and sea.
